Camp FAQ

My child doesn't have any experience around horses. Can they still attend?

Yes! Our camp is tailored to educate riders of ALL levels and experiences.. in a fun and safe environment. Total beginners through advanced riders welcome.

What are the camp hours?

Regular camp is M-F 8:30am - 2:00pm

Mini camp is M,W,F 9am - 12 noon

*Please note: Any camper that is picked up 15 minutes (or more) past the closing time of camp each day will be charged an aftercare fee of $10/hour

Do I have to bring my own helmet?

Yes. Valley Mist Farm does not supply riding helmets. Each camper is required to bring their own SEI/ASTM certified riding helmet in order to ride. We will check the fit of each helmet at the start of camp on Monday.

Do I have to buy all of the special riding clothes?

No. You are not required to purchase official riding pants and boots for camp. Any type of fitted/tight pant (jeans, leggings) and shoes with a rubber sole (boot/sneaker - no crocs) will be fine.

Should I pack a lunch?

Yes. There is a fridge, freezer and microwave available. You should also bring lots of fluids to stay hydrated throughout the day.

Can I bring treats for the horses?

Of course!  Carrots and apples are best. Please consult with a camp counselor before feeding any horse - some have medical/dietary restrictions.

What else should I bring other than a helmet and riding clothes?

You should pack a change of clothes for afternoon activities: shorts, tshirt and sneakers as well as a bathing suit and towel for water activities (no swimming). Other items to consider are: suntan lotion, bug spray, advil/tylenol, camera, etc.

Please pack a face mask as they are required to be worn at all times unless riding.

Additionally, please bring both release forms filled out and notarized. These are required to participate in camp and will be checked at drop-off on the Monday of camp. You can download both forms here: Release part 1 - Release part 2

I work late. Do you offer aftercare?

Yes. We offer before and after care at$10/hour. If this is an option you'd like to utilize, please make arrangements with VMF camp management as as early as possible.

I have my own pony/horse. Can I bring them to camp?

Yes! We would love for you to bring your equine friends along to camp. The "camp board" is $125 for the week - Arrive Sunday afternoon before camp and leave Friday afternoon after camp is finished. Your horse/pony will enjoy full-care in its own stall and private turnout. Trailering available. Current negative coggins within 1 year and vaccine record within 6 months required. What are your COVID-19 protocols?
1. All campers must sign a daily statement stating they arent sick, haven't been around anyone who is sick or hasn't been exposed to anyone sick within the past 2 weeks/24 hours
2. Daily morning temperature checks at check-in
3. Multiple hand-wash stations throughout the property
4. Facility cleaning/disinfecting throughout the day
5. Keeping activities outside as much as possible
6. Splitting into smaller groups to create better social distancing
7. Masks required while on property unless mounted on horseback
